This collection of the first 15 articles in Montana Magazine's popular "Weekender" series comes complete with maps and color photographs.
From the book: "Fifteen loop tours written by Montanans tell visitors where to play, eat, and sleep along main roads and back roads north, south, east, and west. This is an insider's tour guide, written as if your best friend is sharing favorite destinations (and honest cautionary advice)."
On a Missoula-based trip, for example, Brad Hurd writes: "Drive east on Interstate 90 and exit at Highway 200 toward Great Falls. On your way up along the Blackfoot River, you'll pass through Bonner, an old Anaconda Company town. I like to leave the highway at Johnsrud Park and take the old Ninemile Prairie road that traces the river. It's bumpy and dusty, but worth it. This is superb family river rafting or tubing country, with numerous put-in and take-out spots. Floating from Whitaker Bridge to Johnsrud is an ideal day trip that allows plenty of time to fish, swim, and picnic as you go. The Blackfoot has remarkably deep holes that are fun to explore with mask and snorkel. Thibadeau Rapids can give you a thrill but usually isn't treacherous.
If you're a ghost town buff, take a side trip off Highway 200 to Garnet, which still has graphic reminders of Montana's gold mining era. A visitor center provides maps and can acquaint you with the rough-and-tumble life of an 1870s mining camp."
79 color photographs. 112 pages. 8 1/2" x 11". Softbound.
