Yellowstone National Park. The name itself evokes a story and excitement in people. They long to visit the great Western wilds. They remember a family trip there as a child. They wonder at everything the park holds in store for visitors. There isn't much to add to the legacy of the first national park in the United States. Yellowstone National Park was established on March 1, 1872 by Congress and a bill signed by then President Ulysses S. Grant. Its 2,219,789 acres cover a large area of land in Wyoming and spans into parts of Idaho and Montana. Most well known for its geothermal activity which includes the dormant caldera beneath Yellowstone Lake and the Old Faithful Geyser, the park is also home to an abundance of wildlife and vegetation. The terrain includes raging rivers, gigantic water falls, deep canyons, majestic mountains and peaceful meadows all viewable from the winding roads through the park. It truly is an experience for members of the whole family. If you're more of an adventure-seeker, there is plenty of hiking, biking, camping, climbing, fly fishing, and nature walks to be had throughout the interior of the park

 

Aside from the natural wonders of Yellowstone National Park, there are also a variety of informative and historical landmarks you can visit. The Old Faithful Visitors Center includes several information displays, historical buildings, and the famous Old Faithful Inn surrounding the one-of-a-kind geyser. In addition, just inside the North Entrance to the park at Gardiner lies Fort Yellowstone in the small village of Mammoth which was once an Army base now used as headquarters for the park. Virtually all of the buildings there are considered historical markers including the hotels, the court house, and the employee dormitories. That is just a taste of what the nine visitors centers in the park have to offer.>/p>
