The Best Way to Celebrate 406 Day

As you probably already know, 406 day is right around the corner. This being said, now is the time to plan your 406 day celebrations!  Needing some 406 day inspiration? What better way of showing your Montana pride than getting out and enjoying the outdoor playground that our great state offers?  To make your life easier, we have compiled a list of a few of our favorite hiking trails in the Bozeman area!

It is needless to say that Montana offers incredible hiking and backpacking opportunities.  Whether you are a beginner hiker, or backpacking fanatic, our state has something for everyone.  

Hyalite Reservoir Trail

What better a way to spend your 406 day than in Hyalite!  Hyalite Reservoir Trail, a local favorite, is a trail perfect for all skill levels.  This trail is a loop and is just under 3 miles! This trail offers incredible views of the Hyalite Reservoir, a gorgeous lake nestled between the mountains!  In addition the the incredible view of Hyalite Reservoir, this trail is well-known for its excellent bird watching potential! Head up to Hyalite and celebrate 406 day surrounded by nature!

Storm Castle Peak

If you are looking for a more challenging hike to celebrate 406 day, we recommend Storm Castle Peak! Storm Castle is a highly regarded trail near Bozeman that offers incredible views.  This trail is listed as moderate to difficult, and is nearly 5 miles round trip.  Although this hike is more difficult than other trail options around Bozeman, the incredible view in the end is worth it.  Once you reach the summit of Storm Castle Peak, you will be met with a 360-degree view of the surrounding mountains and valleys. 

Lava Lake Trail

There is no denying that Montana is home to hundreds of beautiful mountain lakes.  Among these mountain lakes is Lava Lake, a popular attraction in the Bozeman area!  The Lava Lake trail is around 6 miles round-trip and is listed as a moderate hike.  After your 3 mile hike up the trail, you will be met with a gorgeous mountain lake that people often use for swimming or fishing! If you are wanting to celebrate 406 day surrounded by beautify scenery, Lava Lake just might be the perfect day hike for you!
