A Local Star: Belgrade Business Builds Star for Capitol Christmas Tree

It's shaping up to be a special holiday season for the state of Montana. Firstly, the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree was harvested in the Treasure State earlier this season. According to U.S. Forest Service program manager, Sandi Mason, the 79-foot engelmann spruce from Kootenai National Forest was 76 years old.

But what good is a Christmas tree without an ornamental star? Montana has the answer. According to the Montana Standard, the 4-foot x 5-foot copper star was designed by Washington Companies, based in Missoula, to honor Butte's copper mining heritage.

For residents of Gallatin Valley, the most exciting news is the star itself. This holiday season, the Capitol Christmas Tree will be adorned with a custom-built, handcrafted copper start built by Split Mountain Metals in Belgrade, MT.
