Mountain Arts Pottery began in 1980 as a humble backyard venture when David and Jennie Lockie converted their chicken coop into a pottery studio. They threw their first pieces, built their own kiln following instructions from a book, and even landed a sizeable order from Yellowstone National Park, which helped launch their lifelong craft. Over time, the business grew, and by 2003, the Lockies had transformed a rustic circa-1932 log cabin just outside Bozeman into a charming ceramics shop and studio! Shortly after 2017, the torch passed to the next generation—David and Jennie’s son Josh and his wife Kathy, who continue to run the studio alongside The Coffee Pot Bakery Café, where visitors can enjoy award-winning cinnamon rolls and coffee while browsing beautiful, handmade stoneware crafted right there in Montana.
